COOL HOUSE
1989-91 My training was in oil painting and I returned to the medium after twenty years painting with acrylic. Its gestation was more than a year with two false conclusions and exhibitions. The subject matter became more and more autobiographical as each area was resolved. It became a painting about adolescence: of memories and objects associated with people and places.. hats, gloves, stockings and shoelasts illuminated by a bedside reading light. A clockwork Hornby engine puffs by; the shunting yard which was each nights last conscious sound. |
