This large work is a distillation many of the references gathered on my various trips to Brazil. It is the culmination of ten years of work looking at the extraordinary potent imagery resulting from the collision of Africa and Roman Catholisism that has created Candomble, Macumba and Voodoo, The McManus Gallery Retrospective " A Painted World "caused me to write the following.............. "As I review my practice and resulting body of work it seems like a speculative circular journey, based almost wholly on intuitive choices and a growing understanding of what I can do. The motivation and momentum comes from unexpected discoveries and the hundreds of small decisions, which give each work its resolved identity. See Essays section.
